Four-term Republican incumbent John Faircloth has vast experience as a former police chief and High Point City Council member. He also is the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. But he has been on the wrong side of a number of important issues, from his overly restrictive police video bill to his support for state Sen. Trudy Wade’s attempted overhaul of the Greensboro City Council.
Democrat Martha Shafer, who is a retired Women’s Hospital vice president, lists education as her top priority and supports Medicaid expansion. She is a political novice but knowledgeable, and a quick study.
This seat could use a change and Shafer appears well-suited for the job.
